Redeeming the Friend Zone

Friendship matters.
Un-obligated time “wasted” in a relationship of care and delight. This is the desire many of us carry into our daily lives.

Friendship with God matters.
In fact it is the primary way Jesus relates to his disciples (Jn. 15:15). Un-obligated time with Jesus and his people is the real friend zone.

“Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art.... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things which give value to survival.”

— C.S. Lewis

Home Church

A home church is the primary place for friendship with one another and friendship with God to live.

This is the primary place of formation and discipleship for Capitol City Church. We want to see people led by God to come together to share a meal, share their lives, and practice the ways of Jesus together week over week. How does this start? Truthfully, with your friends. Let’s start where it makes sense to start, and see God work out his faithfulness.

Values

  • Life can be bitter, but Jesus is better. We want to hold the tension of real life, both sorrow and joy, as we follow Jesus together

  • We are active participants in God’s good work, yes, but we are not in control. In our participation we wait on Jesus to work out our transformation.

  • What we know often collides with what we don’t. We worship Jesus as King and hold space for the wonder of his Kingdom.

  • “We want unity, but unity alone becomes dull; we long for diversity, yet diversity without union is chaos. We hate both boredom and chaos; we were made to long for union and uniqueness because we were created for a relationship with our trinitarian God.” - Dan Allendar, Sabbath.
